Dryness can also be to blame. ” If the skin is well hydrated , the skin cells do not stick together so smoothly, and they start to peel off , ” says Zeichner. Other culprits include topical medications peeling skin (like retinoid creams and gels that can treat everything from acne wrinkles ) and some types of scars. For example , people suffering from eczema ( a chronic disease resulting in dryness, redness of the skin ) may also suffer from peeling and dryness. Several other key steps for prevention include stay well hydrated by drinking water throughout the day and moisturizes the skin twice a day. If you have dry skin, Zeichner recommends to take short, lukewarm shower and the use of detergents with nonsoap alkaline pH soap can be damaging to your skin. If you get out of the shower, gently pat yourself dry (rather than rubbing with a towel sharply) and moisturize with a target dry skin lotion for five minutes.
How to Treat Peeling Skin

However, if the result of peeling sunburn, stay away from heavy moisturizers that can retain heat , said Wu . Instead, a cooling water-based lotion or aloe.
Another great way to soothe sunburned skin using milk compress, says Zeichner. Making one at home is a cinch : Simply put chilled whole milk in a bowl with ice cubes. Wet a washcloth in milk and then apply it on the skin for about 10 minutes. ” Protein in milk soothe while lactic acid is an inflammatory, ” said Zeichner. If all else fails , over-the -counter 1% hydrocortisone cream can help reduce inflammation in the mouth and aspirin can cool things inside.
