Megan Young beat five other finalists, including France and Brazil, to win the coveted title in a contest broadcast to more than 180 countries worldwide. She thanked the judges for choosing her and promised to “be the best Miss World ever”.
Miss Philippines was crowned Miss World 2013 on Saturday in a closely guarded ceremony in Bali, Indonesia, after the contest was gripped by protests from Muslim hardliners and fears that extremist groups might try to disrupt the event .
Thousands of members of the radical Islamic Defenders Front took to the streets in the last month in protest against the competition in Indonesia, the most populous Muslim country in the world , calling it ” pornography ” .
The organizers of the protests forced to move the event from a place outside of Jakarta in Nusa Dua in the south of Bali, mainly Hindu island resort .
However , the Indonesian police said there were no reports of unrest surrounding the contest on Saturday .The new Miss World will spend the next year traveling to represent the Miss World Organization and help raise money for his charitable causes.
Marine Lorphelin, 20 -year-old medical student from France, took second place. From Ghana , Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter, 23 , also a medical student , took third place.
